Summer classes are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with 1/2 hour for lunch - Child Brings Lunch and Snacks.
Swim shoes are required. No flip-flops or open-toed shoes.
Every sailor must wear a PFD (personal flotation device). PFDs used by jet skiers are recommended, as they are not bulky. To test for proper fit, strap or zip, then sit down. A PFD for sailing should not "ride up" on the shoulders.
Bring sunscreen, hat, towel, and plenty of liquids to drink. Soft drinks are not recommended.
Wear clothes or bathing suit you plan on sailing in. Bring an extra set of dry clothes.
In the morning on the first day of class, there are forms to submit, so please allow extra time.
We rarely cancel class for weather reasons. Sailing lessons can go on shoreside.
TSS Youth Sailing offers summer sailing to young sailors, ages 7 to 17,
at the Sailing Squadron,
1250 Apollo Beach Blvd., Apollo Beach.
Classes for beginners and intermediate sailors are on Monday – Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
From the first day to the last, young sailors are on the water, sailing in small boats, having fun and learning the ropes in a safe, organized program of sailing activities. They are rigging, launching, sailing and landing a pram or Sunfish, understanding wind direction, steering and points of sail to maneuver the boat upwind (tacking) and downwind (jibing). Intermediate and advanced sailors are improving their skills. All graduating sailors are invited to race in the Joey Meyer Regatta at the end of the season.
Youth Sailing’s instructors are certified to teach by U.S. Sailing, the national sailing authority. Our instructors and assistants have credentials in CPR, First Aid and boating safety. Class size is limited for safety and personal attention.
