JANUARY 2 - Plan 2016 Programs
Planned out some programs for 2016 and discussed Provisioning. Julie gave copies of her “Galley Stores” handout.
FEBRUARY 6 - Boat Tours & Knots
Shannon, Sally and Becky, & Lyda volunteered to let us tour their boats. Knots will be demonstrated and practiced
on board, where you can see the application. Some knots to practice might be: Bowline, Clove hitch, Reef or square,
Half hitch, Cleat – securing a line between a boat cleat to a dock cleat, Stopper or figure 8.

MARCH 5 – Cruising in the Bahamas
Becky, Sally and Julie will discuss Cruising in the Bahamas.
APRIL 2 – Bridges & Battery Saving Techniques
Becky & Julie will discuss bridge etiquette, waterway guide, bridge hours and schedules, right of way, etc.
Becky will discuss important battery saving tips. (We can discuss the opportunity to go out on boats at some
point to experience going under the Tierra Verde Bridge.)
MAY 7 - Discussion on Aids to Navigation
Shannon Arthur will host a discussion on Aids to Navigation, such as lighthouses, buoys, day beacons, fog signals,
JUNE 4 - Help with meal prep for Commodore’s Cup.
JULY 2 - Planning a trip to a mystery location.
Led by Emily Henke. (Trip planning was from Apollo Beach to Keys.)
AUGUST 6 - First Aid, Hoist, and Rail, led by Steve Hodge.
Steve's career was in emergency management, so come get some expert information on First Aid. Hoist and Rail
are two pieces of equipment available to TSS members. Steve will explain what they do. There will be time for
Q&A, so please bring your questions. This meeting is an educational meeting and open to all members.
SEPTEMBER 10 - Kayak adventure on the Newman Branch Paddling Trail in Apollo Beach.
Julie recently went and said most of it is shaded and a very nice trail. BYOL and your kayak if you have one. Will
meet at Becky and Sally's house for departure.
OCTOBER 1 – Gary Mull will lead a discussion on the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
DECEMBER 3 –DIY Christmas project (led by Martha Bindshedler in her garage) followed by Annual Women’s
Gary will talk about the CG Auxiliary, what they do, and programs they offer. Included in that he'll touch on
Vessel Examinations and Boating Safety.
NOVEMBER 5 – TBD
Christmas Party (at Becky & Sally’s house).
NOTE: Men are welcome to attend our educational meetings.
