Okay folks it is time to organize this year's cruises. We've had unbelievable turnouts in the past. I'd like to meet at noon after the work party to discuss trips for 2014. Please participate in planning when / where we go this year. Racer's are welcome - - let's see how we can plan around those all important club races!
Bring info on your favorite places and plans this year. There are some changes to this year's plans!!!
Dolphin Cruising Club cruise to Tampa Sailing Squadron March 14-16.
Tampa Sailing Squadron will host the Dolphin Cruising Club for a St Patrick's Day celebration. This is another good opportunity for TSS cruisers to mingle with the diverse and experienced Dolphin Cruisers. Our club has enjoyed many past join cruises with the Dolphin group. TSS members are invited to join in and celebrate St Patrick's Day with our fellow cruisers.
DIYC Tampa Bay Hospice Cup APRIL 26 th
The date of the 2014 regatta is Saturday, April 26th . We'll have overnight dock space for any of the TSS sailors who want to come join in. Come in on Friday afternoon and participate in the skipper's meeting and a 'Chat with Charley' Morgan Friday night. Sailing happens during the day on Saturday (4/26), with the awards that night. There will be bands both nights, rum specials, etc. After sailing, there is a unique protest hearing where (for a $5 donation) anyone can protest anyone for anything...anything at all.....doesn't have to be related to sailing and most of them weren't!. It was a huge hit last year. We call it 'Judge Jamie's Kangaroo Kourt" You don't want to miss it!
For non-racers, the "Just for Fun" fleet gets them out on the water without the pressure of a starting line, or a designated winner. We will have prizes within the fleet, but they are for things like oldest crew, number of non or first time sailors on board, best food, most outlandish costumes....you get the idea. We give them marks to go around....if they want to...in any order they choose....just to give them a purpose. This was the most fun fleet and I personally think it is the best way to get non-racers to leave the dock and have some fun.
I'm trying to come up with a perpetual trophy for the sailing organization which brings the most boats. If TSS shows up in force....I promise I'll have something! Of course, I'm going to be talking to Boca Ciega too, so tell you group to show up in mass.
There is a dinner/silent auction two weeks before the regatta on April 12th . We can always use participants and donated items for that too.
Charley's dream is to create the largest annual sailing event in Tampa Bay....and have it benefit the wonderful work of hospice care all around the Bay area. Davis Island Yacht Club and Tampa Sailing Squadron have a great shared history and many personal connections. You have some great folks down there and we'd love to have TSS members play a big part in this event as it grows.
Here are some of the basics:
- Entry fee is $60
